Welcome to The Insightful Teacher!

I’m Adam Heath, a PE teacher with 10 years of experience, as well as a Subject-Specific Teacher Educator, ECT Induction Coordinator and Visiting Fellow for Ambitions ‘Forward as 1’. Now, I’m stepping into the world of blogging—something that’s definitely outside my comfort zone!
This blog is all about bridging the gap between teaching strategies and real-life classroom experiences, particularly in secondary state schools.
Teaching strategies shouldn’t just be abstract concepts—they need to be practical, adaptable, and aligned with the day-to-day realities of teaching. Here, I’ll share insights from my own practice—the good (and the bad)—while reflecting on what works (and what doesn’t). I’ll also incorporate findings from educational research to support these approaches.
The goal? To provide practical, easy-to-implement ideas you can use in your classroom (or, in my case, on a 4G pitch, Sports Hall, or MUGA). Whether it’s integrating modelling, adaptive teaching, or implementing specific routines and habits, this blog offers real-world examples and research-backed strategies to help teachers thrive in a state school environment.
Join me on this journey as we explore how evidence-based teaching can make a real difference in student engagement and learning outcomes. Let’s take these strategies off the page and into the classroom—together.
